Part of successful interviewing is actively selling yourself. Before you can effectively do that, you have to accurately assess a family’s needs and customize your interview approach to fit those needs. This goes beyond the job description or the initial phone interview. This goes to understanding and addressing the deeper, unique needs of the parents, the children, and the family as a whole. In this session, you’ll learn how to uncover this information in a way that’s not intrusive by recognizing the cues families offer, asking questions that encourage the sharing of honest information, and putting it all together in a way that gives you a fuller picture of a potential family’s unique needs.
Assessing the family’s needs in this way serves another essential purpose. It’ll make it clear if they’re a good match for you. That insight will help you weed out the families that won’t meet your wants and needs and allow you to focus in on the families that can.
